One vision of how Hollywood is going to butcher Akira in its live-action version.

Happily however, the following report says that the script is staying pretty faithful to the original manga.

  1. First time it was really funny. But upon rewatching it, the humour seemed terribly forced.

  2. ‘Bout that time again, don’t you think?
    You know…to release another podcast?

Seriously folks, I needz more Anime Pacific in my life. It feels like it’s been ages since I’ve heard a gay joke, or an accent.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  5. We are having trouble getting the web page to look right. Dane has been trying to fix it, but it is frustrating. I think he has somewhat thrown his hands up.

  7. Well, I think the problem may be that our grand vision that was this site ran into our complete lack of HTML knowledge. We can’t even get the basic site (that you see here) to display properly.

Note that the sidebar is stuck way at the bottom of the page.

  8. Guys for me I always cared about the podcast more then how your site looks. If your having trouble with this site why not just go back to good old simple blogspot??

  9. Well, the other day we talked about going back to Anime Pacific and just recording a 70th episode of it. But the whole thing is in limbo. We will see.

  10. Well as you can see, most of the serious css issues have been fixed care of Kent from Up A Paddle, who I am totally gay for at this exact moment in time.

That’s the kick in the bottom we’ve needed to kickstart something. If we don’t record this weekend, then hopefully the next…

  11. Dane, were you able to update the HTML at all? If not, I’ll see if I can tweak the CSS to center things a little better.

Also, I’m totally gay for me too.

  12. Incidently, Jake, I can’t provide the accent but Alex sure can, as I am “The unaccented one” - Naturally

And if anyone does want to contribute to sexy new graphics let me know, I’ll make you an admin!

  15. I know this sounds kinda negative and shit. But I hoped for Speed Racer to bomb , and it duly did.I’m hoping for this thing to truly bomb as well.

Start making up your own IP Hollywood.

  18. I actually thought the Speed Racer film was *terrible*.

Probably due in part because I’ve never liked anything that the Wachowski *sex pending* siblings have churned out.

Gatchaman is probably the one Anime related non-Japanese film I’m most looking forward to.

I would like Astroboy to succeed if it’s true to the spirit of the original.

On the other hand, I *HATE* remakes getting more attention/acclaim than their originals.

I *did* see what I believe to be Mount Fuji in the Astroboy teaser, so if they’ve indeed made the character Japanese, I’ll be rooting for the film. If he’s going to be the all around-American boy next door, I’ll boycott it.

  19. Well from what I have gathered the director is an Englishman and he has been working along side the folks over at Tezuka pro in order to maintain the goodness.

Alot of people in the west dont seem to realize how important AstroBoy is in terms of anime history.

From what I gather Mr Bowers (the director) wants to make sure the Japanese fans are not let down.

I read on the net he said he hopes his film will introduce new fans world wide to discover or rediscover the master…..the master being Tezuka!!

I was really let down with the 2003 astro boy, until I saw it in its pure form uncut, wide screen, subtitled with the original music. Its a great show but the very best version I think is the 80s version,Osamu Tezuka said he perfers the 80s version because he was able to express his vision much more the second time around.

Im not a fan of the new character design but I guess we will have to wait and see if its anygood….

My dream is if they took the complete Astro boy manga and turned that into a new astro boy series…Just think use the cgi blend style but maintain Tezukas character design and story down to the T sigh…..

    crazy fan boy out!!!

p.s Hey ANIPAC first one to get a new podcast episode out wins!!!!
